Luckily, on Saturday it was once again 27 degrees. Therefore, the only reasonable idea was heading towards Cottesloe Beach where I met Sarah and Beni. It was just another great day to recover from school, having some good talks, and listening to music. The waves were big, but the water meanwhile so cold that we didn't stay very long inside, as you started freezing immediately although you were swimming and moving around. I probably have to wait another few weeks until I'll be up further north to enjoy really warm waters...
Sunday, the 9. of May was Mother's Day. I got up early once again to play tennis with Kon and his friends. We had a few good rallies. Back home I soon left again in the backseat of Jim' s car, heading with him, Evi, Michael, his sister Erika and some friends to Fremantle for eating fish and chips. It seemed as we were not the only ones having this idea, as it was firstly difficult to find a parking space and secondly to find a table by the sea side. Anyway, it was a good time, the dish was tasty, but we soon left as it was quite cool and windy. Later on we met some other relatives of my host parents' family in a cafe. Back home I had to do my daily homework - another weekend was over...
Week 8 at school was just a week as any other, no real highlights. After the lessons we usually went to town for ice cream if it was warm and sunny or for hot chocolate or coffee when the temperatures were cooler. But it's great just to have some time to chill and hang around with friends, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the city or the sun down at the jetty of the Swan River, having good talks and laughing together. One of the highlights was of course Friday evening. After school was over, I hurried home, put on some warm clothes and took the train to Subiaco where I met Beni, Freddy, Sarah and Max. After a Kebap and a coffee we headed to the Subiaco Oval where we were going to watch the football game between the Fremantle Dockers and Collingwood. Beni organised us some fantastic tickets, so we were sitting in row 5, just behind the goal. The most dangerous part was during the warm up. Although there was a net behind the goal, about every second ball was kicked over it, into the public. So you had to watch out in order not to get hit..., not everyone managed, but we did. 6:40 - kick-off. The Dockers got unfortunately soon behind. The 41'000 supporters, mostly from the Dockers, tried everything to motivate their team, but they seemed to have caught a bad day. At least in the second quarter they could almost even out the score, which brought the suspense back. But in the the end the result was clear, almost devastating for the Dockers, as they soon seemed to have given up. Anyway, it was a great experience. We also learnt some new vocabulary which I can't write down right here, but you can imagine...! To warm up, we decided to have a hot chocolate, which was a fantastic decision as we enjoyed at "Churros" the best hot chocolate I've ever had: Classic Spanish hot chocolate. It was half a meal, so thick and creamy and of course a few calories...! But who cares, we had warm again and deserved it for sure.
On Saturday I met Sarah and Beni in town to have first some coffee before walking down to the jetty at the Swan River. Unfortunately we just missed a ferry and spent instead the next 30 minutes in the souvenir shops down by the riverside. Finally, the ferry took us to Southperth where the Zoo is located. We spent the whole afternoon there, starting in the Australian Bush with all the roos and its friends. We even saw a Koala, but as these lazy guys sleep 20 hours a day we were not surprised to find him sleeping high up in the tree, not willing to pose for photos.
Nevertheless, it was an impressive day at Perth's Zoo.
The next day I went with Sarah to Beni's volleyball match to support him. Unfortunately they lost, but it was fun anyway, although the atmosphere was not as thrilling as the week before at Subiaco Oval;-). After some coffee and a quick lunch in town I went back home.
Already week 9, time is running and running...
No new habits also this week. Doing seriously our homework, but also enjoying the meanwhile rare warm days by coffee or icecream after school. Tuesday was tough as usual, with mock exams in the afternoon. On Wednesday I went with Beni and Sarah to Freo where we met Max. It should be the last time, as she left at the end of the week. We ended up in another ice cream store (it was 25 degrees again) where you can have your ice cream with M&M's, Snickers, Marshmellows or almost whatever you like. Considering the huge variety of basic ice creams, over 3000 combinations are possible. Therefore it is highly unlikely to eat the same ice cream twice if you are willing to try everytime something new. We bought some souvenirs before it was unfortunately time to say goodbye to Max - it was a great time we had with her and we will of course visit her once in the Netherlands or she will come to Switzerland.
Finally weekend, but unfortunately no beach weather. It was pouring down almost all night and the showers continued on Saturday all day, so we decided to to to Harbour Town for shopping. It was a good idea and we even made some bargains:-). In the evening I went out with Michael and a friend for playing Billard. On Sunday - the weather still not very comfortable - I stayed at home, sleeping in, doing homework, playing table tennis (instead of tennis) with Jim and finally booked the last hotels for our big trip which starts on the 27th of June.
There are only 3 weeks to go at School - only 8 days till the speaking exam, as it is already in the middle of week 10. Time is ticking...! You'll see some photos soon right here to get some more impressions what I've done over the last few weeks, but now it's time to go to bed as it is already late again...
